Privacy

This is a free calculator with no accounts and no sign-up. It measures a little about how it is used, and the point of this page is to say exactly what.

Your plan never leaves your browser

Every number you type — balances, contributions, ages, life events — is computed in your browser and stored in your browser. It is never sent anywhere.

When you copy a share link, your whole plan is compressed into the part of the URL after the #. Browsers never send that part to a server, and this site's measurement reads only the path (/) — never the full address. All that is recorded about a shared link is the single fact that the visit arrived through one.

What is measured

Which features are used, and in what order: that a slider moved, that a life event was added, that the spreadsheet was downloaded. Each of these is recorded as an event name with a few coarse labels attached — never a value you entered.

Where a size would be useful, it is bucketed first. An initial balance of $248,300 is recorded as 100k-499k; an age of 38 as 35-44; six life events as 6-10. The buckets are the only vocabulary the system has — a raw figure is rejected before it can be stored, not merely avoided. There are 21 event names in total.

Alongside each event:

What is not measured

If you would rather not be counted

Turn on Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control in your browser and this site sends nothing at all — not a reduced set, nothing. It is checked before an event is even assembled. Blocking cookies or site data has the same effect, and the calculator keeps working either way.

How long it is kept

13 months, then deleted automatically by a job that runs daily. Thirteen rather than twelve so that a year-on-year comparison has a full previous year behind it, and no longer than that.

Where it is stored

On this site's own database, reachable only by its owner behind a password. The measurement is first-party: no analytics company is involved, and nothing is sent to one.
